She was president of the Society of Historians of Republic of Macedonia (2006-2008) and is a current member of the Editorial Boards of the journals Glasnik and Philological Studies, and she is involved in several national and international research projects.
Her research interests mainly range from cultural history and migration studies, memory, identity, analysis of tradition and modernity, written and oral history, historiography and national mythology. Biljana Ristovska-Josifovska is professor at the Institute of National History, the head of the Department of Balkan Studies, as well as the coordinator of the MA-program “History of the Culture of Macedonia” and of the PhD-program “Cultural History of Macedonia”. The work is based on a long-term co-operation with related scientific institutes, universities, non-government organizations, scientific societies, as well as being involved in many joint international and regional research projects, round tables, conferences and publications. The main goal is scientific research of national, political and cultural history of Macedonia and the Balkans, migrations and especially the inter-relations and communications between different regions throughout history.
